Publish a strategy
Turn one of your accounts into a public strategy page that other traders can copy, free or for a price, and keep track of your followers.
A strategy is one of your connected accounts, published with a page of its own. The page shows the account's track record: growth, drawdown, monthly returns and every closed trade. It's built from the broker's history, and live since you connected the account. Other traders copy it to their own accounts and, if you set a price, pay you for it. You set it up in the app, under Signals. Strategies aren't part of the API.
Before you start
- The account must be one of yours, connected, and a hedging account. It can't be a follower in a copier, and an account can only be a strategy once. An account connected with its investor (read-only) password works too, because nothing is ever traded on a strategy's account.
- Up to 10 strategies at once, drafts included. A closed strategy counts until its paying followers' paid time has run out. You can delete a draft you no longer need.
- To charge, you need a payment account. Followers pay you through your own Stripe or PayPal account, so connect one first, as Connect Stripe and PayPal explains. A free strategy needs neither.
Set it up
Under Signals, choose New strategy, pick the account and give the strategy a name. That saves a draft and gives it a page address, /strategies/<code>, which never changes. Then fill in the rest. The preview beside the form shows every change as you make it.
| Step | What you set |
|---|---|
| Page | The market and style, suggested from the account's trades, and a description |
| What the page shows | Whether to name your broker; open positions live, an hour late or only once they close; trade results in money or only in percent |
| Directory | Whether to ask for a place in the public list of strategies |
| Price | Free, a subscription, a share of the profit, or both |
| Suggestions for followers | How they size their lots, the minimum balance you suggest, and any terms of your own |
Publish asks you to confirm three things: that the account is yours, that you're allowed to sell trading signals where you live, and that you accept our terms for providers. The first time, it also asks for the name to show on your pages. Your email address never appears. Once you publish, the page is public.
Prices
| Price | What followers pay |
|---|---|
| Free | Nothing. They still need their own plan for the account they copy to |
| Subscription | A fixed price in USD, EUR or GBP every 1, 3 or 12 months, with an optional free trial of 7, 14 or 28 days |
| Performance fee | A share of the profit their copies make, counted every month and only above their previous high |
| Both | The subscription, plus the monthly share of the profit |
- A trial is offered once per follower and strategy.
- A new price applies to new followers only. Current followers keep the price they signed up with.
- The performance fee works as described in Copy a strategy.
The directory
Ask for a listing when you set up the page. We review every strategy before it appears in the directory at /strategies, and email you our answer. If we decline it or take it out later, the email says why. Change what it names and ask again. Your strategy page works with or without a listing, and anyone with the link can open it.
Your followers
Below the strategy's settings you see who copies it. Each follower shows as a number, with their broker and a range of their balance, never their name, account number or exact balance. You also see the strategy's events, such as new followers and failed payments, and with a performance fee, each month's fee for each follower. Payouts, refunds and receipts are in your Stripe or PayPal account.
Remove stops a follower copying. Nothing new is copied to their account, and copies they already have open keep following your closes. Whether they get money back is up to you, and you refund them in your Stripe or PayPal account.
Pause, resume and close
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Pause | Nothing new is copied, and the strategy takes no new followers. Subscriptions and their payments carry on. Followers are told and can cancel |
| Resume | Copying starts again with the strategy's next trade |
| Close | For good. No subscription renews: paid ones keep copying until their paid time ends, free ones end at once. The page stays up, showing the record it closed with |
Whatever you do with the strategy, followers' open copies keep following your closes and your stop loss and take profit changes until they're closed.
