Connect Stripe and PayPal
How followers pay you through your own Stripe and PayPal accounts, the access each one needs, and what we set up on them.
Followers pay you directly, through your own Stripe account or your own PayPal business account. If you connect both, each follower picks one. You are the seller: the money goes straight to you, and we never hold it or take a share. You connect them in the app, under Signals and then Payments.
Stripe
Stripe takes cards. If your Stripe account is in the EU, the UK, Norway or Switzerland, you can switch on PayPal in it too.
-
In your Stripe dashboard, open Developers, then API keys, and create a restricted key.
-
Give it write access to these, and leave everything else off:
Resource What we use it for Products and Prices The strategy and what it costs Customers Your followers, one customer each Checkout Sessions The page where followers pay or save their card Subscriptions Followers' subscriptions, renewals and cancellations Invoices Receipts, and performance fees, each billed as an invoice of its own Webhook Endpoints The webhook, the message Stripe sends us when a follower has paid -
Paste the key under Payments and choose Check and save.
We check the key with Stripe, then set up the webhook on your account for you. A full secret key works too, but a restricted key can do less harm if it ever leaks. A test key (rk_test_…) lets you try the whole setup, but strategies can't take followers' payments through it.
PayPal
PayPal runs subscriptions on your business account and sends a performance fee as a PayPal invoice, due within 7 days.
- Log in to developer.paypal.com with your PayPal business account and open Apps & Credentials. Switch to Live.
- Create an app of the merchant type. Its standard features cover subscriptions. Also switch on Invoicing.
- Copy the app's client ID and secret, paste them under Payments and choose Check and save.
We work out whether it's a live or a sandbox app, and set up the webhook on your account for you. A sandbox app lets you try the setup, but strategies can't take followers' payments through it. PayPal asks some businesses for approval before they can take payments, so check with PayPal that you can sell trading signals on your account.
What we store, and what we check
- Encrypted. We store the Stripe key and the PayPal secret encrypted and never show them in full again. The app shows only the last four characters.
- Every change is emailed to you: when you connect, replace or remove a payment account.
- Checked daily. If Stripe or PayPal stops accepting the key or the credentials, we email you once. Until you replace them, your strategies take no new followers through that account. Current followers keep copying as long as their payments go through.
- Replacing works at any time. While followers pay through the account, the new key or app must belong to the same Stripe or PayPal account, because their subscriptions are there.
- Removing waits until no follower pays through the account any more.
Taxes, refunds and disputes
As the seller, you handle them yourself, in your Stripe or PayPal account. You can switch on Stripe Tax there. A refund doesn't stop a follower copying. To stop them, remove them from the strategy's followers.
Publish a strategy
Turn one of your accounts into a public strategy page that other traders can copy, free or for a price, and keep track of your followers.
Copy a strategy
Copy another trader's strategy to one of your accounts. See what you pay, how a performance fee is counted and how a subscription ends.
