Copy a strategy
Copy another trader's strategy to one of your accounts. See what you pay, how a performance fee is counted and how a subscription ends.
Every published strategy has a public page with its track record and a button to copy it. Find strategies in the directory at /strategies, or through a link from their provider. When you copy a strategy, one of your own accounts becomes its follower. It trades with the rules you choose, the same way a follower in your own copiers does. You do this in the app. Subscriptions to strategies aren't part of the API.
What you need
- Your own plan, with a free slot for the account you copy to. What you pay the provider comes on top.
- An account connected with its master password, so trades can be placed on it. It must be a hedging account, can't be the master of a copier, and can't copy the same strategy twice at once.
Subscribe
On the strategy's page, choose Copy. The subscribe page has four steps:
- Account. Pick one of your accounts that can copy it. The ones that can't say why. If its balance is below what the provider suggests, the app warns you but lets you go on.
- How it trades. This starts with the provider's suggestions, and you can change them now or later: lot sizing, the largest lot, symbols and how they map to your broker's names, trading sessions and stops. Copying in reverse isn't offered, because it would trade against the strategy.
- Before you start. You confirm that copying can lose money, that your broker or prop firm allows it, and that you accept the provider's own terms if they set any.
- Payment. Pay by card through Stripe or with PayPal, whichever the provider offers. If they offer both, you choose.
| Price | What happens |
|---|---|
| Free | Copying starts at once |
| Subscription | You pay on Stripe's page or approve the subscription on PayPal's. During a free trial nothing is charged yet. Copying starts once Stripe or PayPal confirms it |
| Performance fee, card | You save a card on Stripe's page. Nothing is charged until a month ends with a fee |
| Performance fee, PayPal | You give the PayPal address the invoices go to, and copying starts at once |
Copying starts with the strategy's next trade, or right away with its open positions if you chose to copy them.
What the provider sees of you is your broker and a range of your balance, such as 5,000–25,000 USD. Never your name, your account number or your exact balance. Your payment does show them your name and email, in their Stripe or PayPal account.
Your subscription
Under Signals, then Following, each subscription has its own page. It shows what your copies made, the next payment, each month's fee with the trades it counted, your payments, and every copy, close and skipped trade. Change settings changes how it trades, starting with the next trade.
Performance fee
The fee is the strategy's share of new profit: how far your copies' results rose above their previous high. Every month from the start, or from the end of a free trial, we add up your copies' closed trades on your account, including copies you closed yourself, and keep a running total. The fee is charged on the part of the total above its highest point so far, called the high-water mark. The mark then rises to the new total.
| Month | Your copies made | Total since the start | High-water mark before | Fee at 20% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | +1,000 | 1,000 | 0 | 200 |
| 2 | −600 | 400 | 1,000 | 0 |
| 3 | +900 | 1,300 | 1,000 | 60 |
- The currency is your account's. Cent accounts count in their full currency, so 1,000 USC counts as 10 USD.
- A month is counted once all your account's trades up to the month's end are in. You can check every fee against the trades it counted.
- Small fees below Stripe's minimum charge, such as 0.50 USD, are carried over to the next month.
- By card, the fee is charged to the card you saved. By PayPal, it comes as a PayPal invoice, due within 7 days.
- After the subscription ends, the last month runs until your last copies are closed, 30 days at most, and is charged then.
When a payment fails
Copying carries on for 3 days while Stripe or PayPal tries again, and you can pay from the subscription's page. After that, copying stops until you pay. A PayPal invoice still unpaid after 7 days counts as a failed payment.
Cancel
Cancel subscription on the subscription's page asks how you want to stop:
- At the end of the paid time. New trades are copied until then, and the subscription price isn't charged again. A performance fee for the last month still is, once your copies are closed. With Stripe, you can undo the cancellation until then. With PayPal, the payments stop at once and the cancellation can't be undone.
- Now. Your open copies are closed at market, and you lose the rest of the paid time.
A free strategy, or one with only a performance fee, stops at once, and you decide whether to close your open copies now. Either way, copies left open keep following the strategy's closes and its stop loss and take profit changes until they're closed. The fee for the last month comes once they are.
If the provider pauses the strategy, nothing new is copied, but your subscription carries on and you can cancel. If they close it, nothing is renewed and copying carries on to the end of your paid time. You only get money back if the provider refunds you.
